Telephone Consultation: An important initial step is to express your concerns to our intake coordinator to determine if Occupational Therapy is right for your child. Based on your child’s age and the challenges being faced, you can decide with a therapist what types of evaluation service will meet your child’s needs. We offer occupational therapy screenings and comprehensive evaluations with our director or a staff therapist. You can download intake forms directly from our website. The information you provide will help us target the specific areas we need to investigate to meet your child’s unique needs.
Evaluations: There are a wide range of evaluations available to assess your child’s strengths and challenges. We do a combination of standardized testing and clinical assessments to determine your child’s needs. The evaluation can take anywhere from 1 to 4 hours over 1 or 2 sessions depending on the age of your child and your concerns. If deemed helpful, a school observation can be scheduled prior to or after the in-office evaluation.
At POTS, we are SIPT (Sensory Integration and Praxis Test) certified. The SIPT is the “gold standard” in sensory integration evaluations and is the most well-known and comprehensive standardized assessment of sensory processing. A SIPT evaluation usually takes between two and a half to four hours to administer and is accompanied by other testing.
Treatment Consultation: If through the evaluation process, occupational therapy treatment is recommended, we will schedule a consultation with you in order to prioritize goals for your child. You are always welcome to visit us at POTS to tour our facility and speak with an occupational therapist to ensure that we are a good fit for you and your family.
