What is SI (Sensory Integration) 101?

POTS is offering an introductory course for parents and professionals to experience some of the sensory integration techniques used in occupational therapy with children.

From 7:30-8:00 join us in our sensory gyms, fine motor and Medek rooms to experience suspension equipment, Therapeutic Listening and Interactive metronome first hand. Staff members will be on hand to answer questions about occupational therapy in general and about sensory integration in particular

From 8:00-9:30 our director, Chaye Lamm Warburg, will offer a more formal presentation to parents and professionals, including an overview of the theory and practice of sensory integration, the impact of sensory integration in school and at home and suggestions for parents and teachers. Sensory diets for home and school will be discussed. This is also a unique opportunity to get answers to some of the questions you may have.

What topics will be covered?

An explanation of sensory integration, vestibular, proprioception, suspension equipment and all the other commonly used jargon

Information about sensory diets
An inside look at what happens in the “Big Room”
An overview of special treatment techniques, including Therapeutic Listening and Interactive Metronome

Wednesday January 7, 2009.
