The engine that drives the DIR model. It is a specific technique in which a parent gets down on the floor to engage with the child 20+ minutes. It is also general philosophy that characterizes all interactions with the child. Floortime techniques include following the child's lead, harnessing the child's natural interests, joining the child in his world and pulling him/her into a shared world in order to expand him/her functional emotional capacity.
